1926: The Beginning of Black History Event Celebrations

Black History Month is celebrated in the UK in October but did you know it was first celebrated in America. 1926 sees the beginning Black History events, these are now a formal recognised event held in America and Canada in February and in the UK, it is held in October. Black history is around us every day not just one month of the year. The virtual walk include in this short video aims to encourage us to think about the contributions Black people have made to our daily lives.

The Project also has a facilitating role, liaising, co-ordinating, and promoting shared activities to ensure that local people have a say in heritage, housing, community safety, leisure, play services, social care and health provision. Our aim is to enhance cohesion, and empower the community to be active citizens through community events, education and training.
